Food Security and livelihoods – Pastoral rural Communities have built a rich cultural base that has sustained their ways of life for centuries.

However, years of conflicts like the case in Somaliland and civil war have left the pastoral economy depressed and without the ability of coping mechanism.

SHARDI responds by supporting alternative livelihoods, respecting employment dignity and creating engines for economic diversification and prosperity.

SHARDI will target the following objectives in its response to the needs:

1. Income generation at household level through enhanced livelihoods.
2. Improve access to safe water and rangeland through improved pastoral livelihood system.
3. Improved local resources by improving governance.
4. Enhance capacity of local communities, institutions and government for sustainable management of pastoral resources.
